A ten minute drive brings you in to the center of Gainesville where a quaint setting shares that old time charm. If you bring a boat, in just seconds you are on the Chattahoochee river which is one of the main channels of the lake. This is also right near the Olympic Rowing Venue (home of the 1996 Summer Olympics rowing events) and a very desireable area for some of the best fishing spots.
Also nearby is the Lake Lanier Islands Water Park, Bike and roller-blading paths, Tennis, Horseback riding and much more. There are numerous golf courses in the vicinity with the closest one less then a ten minute drive. Additional amenities are also only minutes away, including restaurants, a shopping mall, food stores, etc. Downtown Gainesville provides some interesting shops and a few fine restaurants. Gainesville Marina is a full-service marina only minutes away by boat or car. The Mall of Georgia, and Chateau Elan (vineyard) are within easy driving distances too.
A short road trip will allow you to explore the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains boasting the Historic towns of Helen and Dahlonega, the Appalachian Trail, Tallulah Falls, White Water Rafting, Tubing, Mountain Bike riding and hiking...just to name a few. Chattahoochee Golf Club is a public golf course built on 183 acres of land. The features of this course are practice area, driving range, large pro shop, dinning area, public locker and shower facilities.

Information: 18 hole, 6740 yds, Par 72, Slope: 125. Municipal course founded in 1955. The architect is Robert Trent Jones, Sr. It is open year-round.
Chicopee Woods Golf Club
Located in Gainesville, Chicopee Woods has become a favorite among North Atlanta golfers. A round of golf at Chicopee Woods resembles a casual stroll through the park. Golfers of all skill levels enjoy this championship layout... now featuring 27 holes.
The city of Gainesville acquired approximately 2,650 acres of land as a gift from the Johnson and Johnson company. In 1980, the Chicopee Woods Park Commission was created as a political subdivision of the state of Georgia under an act of the general assembly of GA to oversee all activities within Chicopee Woods. In addition to the golf course, the land contains the Chicopee Woods Agriculture Center, the Elachee Nature Science Center and extensive wilderness areas.
A 1 percent sales tax in Hall County provided the funds to build to the golf course, which opened in 1991.
